Here it is on Amazon As some of you may have reason to know, Good quality bedding for extremely low temperatures is very, very expensive. It does not matter if you are talking about a sleeping bag or comforters and blankets. This bag is rated to minus 25 degrees, meaning you will survive in minus 25 degree weather, not that you will be comfortable in minus 25 degree weather. This sleeping bag cost me $114.00, and I consider it the best $114.00 I have ever spent. I have TOTALLY turned off the heat in my bedroom (actually I only heat two rooms in my apartment). (I live in Virginia and can walk to the Shenandoah National Park which is mountainous forest). I just make sure the pipes don’t freeze. My power bill is half of what it used to be last winter, granted I have never kept the place warm. (It is running 50 to 80 a month now. I suspect keeping the place “warm” would produce a $400.00 or greater bill as I live in a 109 year old house with very little insulation. But on the subject of sleeping…..This bag is large and you have lots of room to move around in it (most cold temp sleeping bags are mummy bags…. hate ’em).. I use my queen sized flannel top sheet folded in half as a sleeping bag liner. I fold the section in the bottom to make a “foot box” and I have a foot or so of sheet sticking out the top part of the bag and folded over the top part of the bag . This prevents me from making physical contact with the bag, both the inside and the outside. This is very important as you want to keep the bag clean meaning you don’t want your skin to touch the lining or the outside of the bag. I zip the bag all the way up and just my face is peaking outside. I have not washed the bag yet and I am not looking forward to that. It will be a bear to dry. Which is why I am very serious about keeping it clean. I open it up and fluff it out and air it out all day till night time. (That is no small thing as it is very heavy….)Anyway, I sleep in it every night. I just wash my sheets used as a liner once a week, and this has done a very good job of keeping the bag clean. Let me tell you no one sleeps as well as I do, no one. I have been very, very grateful for this purchase and it paid for itself by the second month I had it. So this is just an idea. I would have never considered using a sleeping bag on my bed, if it were not so cold here.

From: Patricia–I have one other thing to say about staying warm, in the winter. If you get wet, you will not be warm. Period. If your feet get wet, and you spend any amount of time outside or in a non temperature controlled environment, you are going to be in big, big trouble. I am writing this in the middle of a snow storm and I have to walk to work and in my line of work, you have to be at work regardless of the weather. Actually I walk everywhere, but right now because of the weather the cab is not even an option. So this is very real to me right now. So you need shoes that can handle this. You need to test said shoes under real conditions. (I just bought a pair of snow hikers, got them for a wonderful price, and discovered they are too small for me to walk the number of miles I need to be able to walk in them…. So…) I spend so many hours on my feet, running around, that a normal pair of running or walking shoe will not cut it for me. This started with my last job, but it is even truer now, because of the number of miles I have the potential to walk in a day. I became so hard on shoes, I was breaking though good quality walking, running shoe (I buy a pair and alternate them) in two months’ time. It was insane. I made the switch to trail runners, that, and this is critical, are Gortex lined. I now wear them everywhere. The trail runners I have right now are holding up very well in the snow, and I am getting to work and back safely, with totally dry feet. A coworker of mine gave me some spikes to fit onto my shoes to keep me from slipping. Actually the trail runners are doing well without the spikes, but I keep them in my bag just in case…
It is not just snow though, it is rain as well. So I can go to work with it pouring rain, splash in puddles, and show up with dry feet. This is priceless to me and I wish I made the switch a long time ago. Trail runners are less expensive when it is off season or end of season or the last season’s model. I pay about what I would pay for a normal walking or running shoe for my trail runners (most of the time). When I find something that works and I find a good price for them, I buy as many as I can. (That is not a lot, but once you know the exact brand, model and size of shoe that works for you, buy them up, because the next version of that shoe may not work.) On the subject of trail runners and plantar fasciitis and other conditions. When you get out of your trail runner at home, lean against the wall with your body and your legs straight and hold a static stretch. You want to feel the stretch in your calves and your heal area. Hold that for upwards of two minutes. Also I don’t wear shoes in the house. I walk around barefooted in warmer months and sock footed or double sock footed in colder months. The more time spent in your bare fee the better.
