I ALWAYS listen to my dogs because they sense things humans can’t. We have deer, wolves, coyotes, bears, moose, cougars, just to name a few, that you can run into at any given time. I always let someone know when & where I’m going, when I expect to be back & I carry protection at all times. The woods & trails can get thick, dark & creepy at times. My dogs alert me if they sense something “off”. I always listen to them. If they’re not comfortable, we turn around.

None of those rural resident’s animals are off limits to them. BTW cows are quite expensive to buy, they are several thousand dollars for a normal cow, last time I checked. If they will go after your pets, or the community cared for dog or cat, they will go after your lambs, chickens, goats, and other animals with zero qualms about this. So yes, I am certain that is going on all over Europe even if no one told me this. Italy has a serious problem in that it is “boatable”. Very sad.
