Pharmakeia: Sorcery, Pharmaceuticals & the Roots of Modern Day Drug-Part 1

9/21/2008 & 09/28/2008

Pharmakeia is a form of the Greek root word from which we get our English words: Pharmacy, Pharmacist, and Pharmaceutical. In the Bible, pharmakeia carried with it the idea of sorcery, occultism, and black magic. It is in this sense that Paul used the term in Galatians 5.20 as the word ‘witchcraft’. In Rev. 9:21 & 18:23 it is translated ‘sorceries’. Do you find it rather disturbing that approximately 60% of the population is taking at least one pharmaceutical drug every day? Some are taking up to fifteen and twenty! We are told that we are living during a time of the greatest medical breakthroughs in the history of the world yet, over one hundred million Americans suffer from various health problems. Why has such a large majority of the world become dependent on pharmaceutical drugs? Perhaps you’re one of the hundreds of millions around the world that’s ingesting a daily dose of pharmaceutical medicine? Is it possible that the pharmaceutical/medical cartel has ‘disease treatment’ and not ‘disease cure’ in mind? The most powerful German economic corporate emporium in the first half of this century was known as IG Farben, and was nothing more than a powerful cartel of BASF, Bayer, Hoechst, and other German chemical and pharmaceutical companies. IG Farben was the single largest donor to the election campaign of Adolph Hitler & the beginning of the modern day pharmaceutical industry. Zyklon-B, an extermination gas produced by Hoechst, was used to kill millions of innocent people in death camps. The U.S. government’s investigation (of all the factors leading to WW2 in 1946) came to the conclusion that without IG Farben the Second World War would of not been possible.

    Dr. Johnson

I am nearing the completeion of all my pre recs for nursing here in Michigan.I am curious about what your take is on modern medicine is concerning opiates and pain killers in general used in medicine and about christians working in the medical field. Is it not approiate to use these medicines in emergencies such as accidents and broken legs and the like? Does this go against the scriptures? Is it wrong to use these medicines to relieve pain?
I understand your position about flu shots. I feel they are dangerous and unecessary. I want ( or wanted) to enter the medical field to help people but am having second thoughts about it. I would like to work and live for the Lord Jesus Christ. The true religion of god is this: Care fore the orphans and widows. Proverbs say that we should have mercy on the poor. I understand that we can’t work for our salvation but we are to show our faith by our works. I am currently an Industrial Electrician working for Ford Motor Company, but I would like to break away from that and go work overseas some where. I recently watched a video on Day of Discovery about a missionary named Nadine Hennesey. If you go to http://www.dod.org and watch her documenterty you will see the kind of work I want to do. Even if my works are burned up, I would rather work for the Lord than live for myself. I am tired of living this selfish life that I am living. I am but a wretched sinner.
I would like to know what you have to say about this matter. I know that you are very busy so I will understand if you don’t reply.

    Sincerely
    Jeff

Praise be to the Lord Jesus Jeff,

Oh I am so grateful to Jesus to have read your letter…. Praise be to the Lord Jesus! Jesus came for me like 2009 and began opened my eyes… He gave me a fear and love for Him… I realized I had lived a life full of sin and that following Him was more than what I had been taught in the churches of men.

Jesus begin to teach me righteousness, holiness, virtue. He told me to keep Gods commandments, and to live a sin-free life. I had never heard things like this before.

One day Jesus told me that the medical/ pharmaceutical industry was an industry of withcraft, sorcery, lies, fear, murders, and thefts and that doctor, nurses, researchers, and patients worldwide needed to repent… In the book of revelations warns about the great men of this earth being merchants…

“And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.’

“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”

…..The basic point, is that the medical industry is bad and people need to repent. There are so many things I would like to share with you Jeff.

I want to help the poor, visit the sick, and orphans, and live a life of service too… sigh. Waiting on Jesus to direct me where He wants me to go. please email me at deshanne_collins@yahoo.com or friend me on facebook. I look forward to hearing from you.

May the Lord Jesus God Almighty bless you.

    in Jesus.

God gave man the intelligence to create medicines to help alleviate human suffering, such as with cancer pain, broken bones, severe burns, chronic pain conditions (to the point of being practically housebound) etc. Yes we can use herbs and vitamins for minor ailments (like cold and flu) but there are times when powerful painkillers are necessary.

I once had a medical procedure that was very painful (blood curdling—as though my lower half were on fire) but because I was given a morphine pill as soon as I awoke, it lifted the pain INSTANTLY. I did not get ”high” or ”stoned” on it whatsoever because the drug was too busy soaking up the pain. Neither did I become addicted to it thereafter. The intense burning sensation lifted the instant I swollowed the pill and I was impressed with how quickly it worked.

When used properly, opiates and other similar medications can dramatically improve the quality of a person’s life. Yes these drugs can be abused by addicts but if used in proper context, they can dramatically improve the quality of a person’s life, to the point of allowing them to maintain a job or some semblence of normalcy—even just to go outside for short trips to the grocery store or a church service once a week (as opposed to being otherwise housebound and incapacitated).

I have also listened to Scott’s teaching on this subject and agree with some of what he said but not everything. I don’t think that just because you take a painkiller, you’re practicing pharmakeia (aka witchcraft). I think pharmakeia only occurs when such medications are abused—and most especially combined in conjunction with witchcraft ceremonies. It would be an insult to tell cancer patients or anyone else screaming in abject pain, that they are practicing sorcery by taking opiates or any of it’s related cousins.

I also don’t think that certain psychiatric conditions like schizophrenia or manic depression can be cured just through diet, exercise, vitamins and herbs alone, nor do I think that all psychiatrists are evil sorcerers and purely in it for the money.

My mom was a practicing RN for many years and she once told me about a female patient she had who was writhing in indescribable cancer pain and said to my mom ”they shoot horses don’t they? ” It would be an insult to tell such a person to just pop a vitamin C and all your troubles will disappear.

Yes opiates (as well as benzos) have the potential to be abused but can at the same time, drastically improve and perhaps even prolong a person’s life.

  4. Samantha says:

This was the teaching God used to lead me to Dr. Johnsons ministry and I am forever thankful. ‘God gave us’ is such an abused argument for justifying sin. God gave you a mouth, and many people curse the name of the Lord Jesus Christ with that mouth. People these days like to pin Satans evil idea’s onto God, and if we are reading the word of God and understanding it we will see that it is not so. What Glory does Jesus Christ get from modern medicine? Who gets the glory, the drug or Christ? If you save a cancer patient and they still burn in hell then what’s the point? The point is the world is so decieved and we are conditioned to believe that if we ‘think its ok’ it must be right with God. Instead of going to the Lord and seeking a matter out we say ‘it feels good, it must be ok, God won’t send me to hell because of it’

‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge’ Hosea 4:6, ‘There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.’ Proverbs 16:25

We as Christians need to live in submission to the Lord Jesus Christ, in the days we are living in there seems to be a tendency to only give parts of our life to the Lord and feel as though we need to rule the rest of it. If you do not agree with Dr. Johnson it should be on the grounds that you’ve prayed, searched out the word and found him to be biblically incorrect, otherwise you may be entering dangerous territory.

The Lord created the universe, He saved our souls, can He not heal our illinesses too? Why are we so reluctant to seek His will and pray? Maybe His will is not to heal, every situation is different, we must seek first and foremost His will and let it be done.

May the Lord continue to bless your ministry!
